Hosting platform Cloudflare has launched its own content management system called EmDash. As mentioned earlier, they claim that EmDash is the spiritual successor of WordPress. Now, let’s find out what EmDash is and whether it is better than WordPress.
What is EmDash?
EmDash is a full-stack TypeScript content management system built on the popular frontend framework Astro. It allows users to create blogs, landing pages, and visual portfolios with modern development tools.
Is EmDash Better Than WordPress?
There is currently no strong reason to compare EmDash directly with WordPress. You might wonder why.
EmDash is still in beta (version 0.1.0) and lacks many essential features. With WordPress, you can quickly set up and launch a website without technical complexity. In contrast, EmDash requires setting up a Git repository and deploying the site on Cloudflare or another hosting provider, which can be time-consuming.
EmDash works best on Cloudflare since it is developed by the same team. The goal appears to be bringing more users into the Cloudflare ecosystem by offering a modern CMS alternative.
At this stage, calling EmDash the “spiritual successor” to WordPress is premature. However, since the project is under active development, it has the potential to introduce powerful features that could compete with WordPress in the future.
For now, using EmDash for production blogs or business websites may not be ideal. It does not yet support third-party plugins, which are a major strength of WordPress.
